Electric Radiant Heat: A Smart Solution
Electric radiant heat is a really smart choice for winter time comfort. Picture it: The light, fluffy snow is really coming down, and the view out your picture window is icy and peaceful. It must be way below freezing out there, but as you walk barefoot to the kitchen for another cup of tea, made from steaming hot water, you hardly think about it. Your toes are toasty, and you pat yourself on the back for your brilliant decision to install radiant floor heat throughout your house. Even the dog smiles up at you from his place on the floor, thankful to have such a thoughtful master.
Taking your cup of tea to the table, you sit down to tackle the latest stack of bills. It’s not the chore it used to be, before the radiant heating system. The old system had a vacuum pump hooked directly to your wallet. Month after month, you kept the temperature in the house too cold for comfort, and it still cost you an arm and both legs. How could a heating system possibly be that inefficient? You’re a pretty smart cookie to finally get rid of the old burdensome beast and get some relief, both for your tootsies and for your bank account!
Looking around, you’re happy with the new furniture arrangement, too. Before, things never did look quite right, with the furniture arranged to avoid blocking all those oddly-placed heat vents. You’ve noticed something else this year, too: no more cold spots in the room! Everywhere you go, the comfy warmth surrounds you. No more toe-shock because you step from the carpet to the wood floor or the ceramic tile in the bathroom. Ahhh, the bathroom. It’s hard to believe ceramic tile can feel so cozy.
Checking your watch, you see it’s almost time for the guys to come over to watch the game. Down in the basement rec room, the temperature’s cooler because it’s zoned separately from the first floor. Why keep it heated when you only use it once in a while? Not to worry, a quick adjustment and it’ll be all warmed up by kickoff. The only thing cold down there during the game will be the beer.
Perhaps it seems we're painting a ridiculously cozy picture, but this is precisely the kind of warm environment that electric radiant heat creates. Normally, in our minds, we tend to think of the old-fashioned fireplace as the synmbol of winter warmth and comfort. But in actuality, electric radiant heat does a better job of providing an even flow of heat throughout the house than the fireplace could ever do.
Maybe putting in electric radiant heat does not make you the smartest guy you know. But considering how efficient and affordable it is, there's no denying that it is a pretty smart move.
